Achieving Competence in Aviation English

Adacel’s ICE-Pilot launches a new approach to learning the language of the air. Say goodbye to the days of tedious memorization. Adacel’s system not only allows pilots to learn correct communications procedures and terminology, but allows them to learn it in a dynamic, immersive aviation environment. Students gain a much stronger understanding of the situational context in which the words are intended.

Adacel’s ICE-Pilot is specifically designed to help users gain the vocabulary and comprehension necessary to meet ICAO’s aviation English language requirements.

Product Modules

Immersive Context Based Communications and Procedures Training Phraseology Teaching and Assessment - A beginner’s course in
aviation phraseology that includes the following features
  • Read and Repeat
  • System prompt and Student Answer – The system will issue a controller instruction and the student provides the correct response
  • System questions and students answers – the system asks the student procedures related questions and the student responds
Dynamic Teaching and Assessment - This module walks the student
through scripted training scenarios and monitors the student’s
conformance to correct communications procedures
Simulation Environment Teaching and Assessment - The student is placed in a real time simulated air traffic
environment that includes contextually accurate background radio chatter and control instructions. Adacel’s Intelligent
Communications Environment (ICE) with its embedded advanced speech recognition and voice synthesis technology enables
students to interact with virtual aircraft and air traffic controllers. Students progress from learning and voicing basic
phraseology to applying it within simulated ‘live’ flying scenarios. ICE Pilot generates audio and text feedback is generated to
assist learning and tools are provided to monitor, assess and record progress. The system teaches correct word-by-word
pronunciation of aviation terminology to native and non-native English speakers alike. More importantly it reinforces aviation
procedural training and the understanding of the language as it is applied in real traffic situations.
